The Long Lasting Roofs Are Long Gone Due To Americas Throw Away Mentality

America’s throw-away mentality is the loss of thousands of perfectly good slate roofs, which are ripped off and destroyed by uncaring roofer in Toronto who can’t be bothered with recycling anything. The slates are dumped in landfills and the roof replaced with disposable petro-chemical roofing which is also destined to soon clog a landfill. Most of the harder slate roofs are quite recyclable, however, and care should be taken when removing them, to salvage the slates either for slate roof repairs or for a completely new roof.

The slates should he pried loose with a flat pry bar ("wonderhar") starting at the top of the roof, and then allowed to slide dour the roof and collect on planks that run across the bottom of the roof on roof jacks. While someone is prying the slates loose, someone else can he gathering them up and either carrying them down a ladder, dropping them down over the eaves or through a hole in the roof in a rope and harness, or sliding them down a chute to someone else.
